The PR Resolution
Happy New Year! We had a great 2014, and would like to wish our colleagues and clients all the best for 2015.
So, it’s that “New Year, New Me” time of year again with everyone looking to make a positive change. For those of you looking to raise awareness for your business, there are a number of things you can do – aside from hiring a good agency, of course!
– Keep in with the industry – stay well read
Knowing the ins and outs of your industry can only stand you in good stead for 2015. Having the latest information will help you to gain as much knowledge as possible and create informed, well-rounded pieces of writing.
– Stay on the write tracks
There’s always that tricky apostrophe, the pesky commas and the ‘there, their, they’re’ debacle that trips oh so many people up. The best way to avoid these embarrassing slip-ups is to thoroughly proofread and edit your work. Would you leave the house in your pyjamas without brushing your hair or teeth? No, so don’t send your work out without making it over first.
– Look out for the latest trends
This resolution is especially relevant to those taking a step into the social ocean. Reading the latest news and trends is extremely important, because staying on top of recent news is a great way to keep current. KitKat’s ‘we don’t bend, we break’ response to the iPhone 6 criticisms is a fantastic example. However, always research the context behind the trends, as DiGiorno Pizza found out when they used the hashtag #WhyIStayed to promote pizza rather than to show support for domestic violence victims.
– Make new friends… with key journalists
Having a great relationship with journalists should be a key resolution for 2015. The brand / journo relationship is a mutually beneficial partnership, so fostering healthy, long-lasting relationships with your key journalists is an important process.
– Aim high and stick to your goals
Do you have solid PR plans and strategies in place for 2015? Having clear aims that are ambitious yet do-able will help to structure your year and make the most of your resources.
