No Peeking: Five fun (and legal) uses for Periscope

It was only a matter of time before somebody found a naughty use for Periscope and now they have. Some users chose to live broadcast the much anticipated new season premiere of Game of Thrones, prompting HBO to claim that Periscope might be a tool for ‘mass copyright infringement.’

Tut tut.

After a week or two of playing around with it, we’ve come up with some fun uses that won’t get you in to any trouble at all.

1.Finding your way

· Some people’s brains don’t respond well to verbal directions, mine being one of them. So, Periscope offers people like me access to real-time sat nav instructions from my friends. Did they make it to the pub first? No idea where that new bar is? Well, film where you are and get them to direct you.* (*We take no responsibility for friends who decide to deliberately get you lost)

2. Picking your food:

· Picture the scene: You’re in the newly opened restaurant in town and it’s expensive. Really expensive. In fact, you’ll probably never be able to afford to come again, so you need to make sure you pick the right thing. The pressure is unbelievable. There’s only one thing for it, let the people of Periscope pick for you!

3. Dating:

· Ok, a bit weird and your date would have to be ok with it (making them, well, a bit weird too) but if conversation has dried up on that all important first date, let the distant voices of other Periscope users come to your rescue.

4. Interviews:

· Don’t rely on your own unoriginal responses. There’s a whole world out there, waiting to help you out with clever things to say. That job is yours!

5. Shopping:

· Don’t ever make the wrong purchase again. Let people from foreign lands tell you that you look ‘way too fat’ in that jumper to even consider it.

In other words, Periscope could mean never having to make your own choices EVER AGAIN.

Of course, we are only joking, and we are all really excited to see what difference Periscope will make to the worlds of business, politics, sports and showbiz, instantly connecting people from across the world and letting them experience events as they happen. But, for now, please stop showing us the inside of your fridges!
